Laura Keeley. Wow, where to start?
In the beginning, there was Super Bowl XXXII. Laura was 8 years old, and as John Elway lifted his first Lombardi Trophy into the air, she began to draft interview questions she thought reporters should ask him. Thirteen years later, Laura is now the one asking those questions.
Laura has asked questions (and written stories) for:
- Bloomberg News (summer 2010 intern, where she covered the financial services industry in New York City)
- The Chronicle, Duke’s independent daily newspaper (Current sports features editor and queen of The Chronicle’s Sports Blog)
- Towerview, Duke’s monthly student magazine (Current associate editor)
- Pittsburgh Post Gazette (summer 2009 intern, primarily based in sports with forays into other departments)
- Carteret County News-Times (summer 2009 general assignment intern. She shot photos too!)
As senior English and Spanish double major with a certificate in Policy Journalism and Media Studies at Duke University, Laura rarely stops writing.
A few more details, you say? Gladly!
- Laura was recently one of 32 fellows in The Poynter Institute’s 2010 College Fellowship. She was bitten by the multimedia bug while surrounded by her amazingly talented peers and built a website, Skyway Jack’s, to showcase her multimedia efforts.
- Traveling is another passion of Laura’s. She studied abroad at the University of Oxford (England) in the latter part of summer 2009 and in Madrid for her fall 2010 semester. She wrote an opinion column for The Chronicle that, due to rave reviews, continued when she came back to Duke in the spring of 2010.
